My blog turns 9 years

It’s crazy how time flies. Today, my little insignificant travel blog turns a whopping 9 years old. Over almost a decade, my life has changed tremendously. I’ve enjoyed the freedom of travelling and lived abroad a couple of times, only to return to my home country Finland. Solo trips have been replaced by journeys with my family. The search for myself has shifted towards finding some stability. All of this is very natural. The content of the blog changes as the writer changes.

One thing, however, has remained unchanged

This is what I wrote in my very first blog post on June 1, 2014:

I have loved travelling ever since I was little. Every now and then, my mind has been overwhelmed by a longing for freedom, a desire to escape Finland, and a yearning for places I have not yet visited. I’ve tried to suppress those feelings by reading travel blogs and forums, browsing last-minute flight deals, and planning future trips. However, from time to time, the feeling of wanderlust becomes too strong, and I have to pack my suitcase and head abroad. It helps, but only for a moment. There seems to be no cure for this ‘illness.’ And that’s a good thing because I enjoy it.

The love for travelling and the feelings of wanderlust haven’t disappeared anywhere. They are still the driving force that keeps me writing these posts and planning new trips. They serve as focal points that give the motivation to endure everyday “boring” life. At least for me, they bring meaning to my life.

So here we are, after 9 years. I don’t yet know what the future holds for blogs in a time when Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have been much more popular for a while now. However, I can promise that we will celebrate the blog’s 10th anniversary next year.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.
