In my previous blog post, I told the story of how I left everything to travel to Australia and taste a life that is completely different from the one that I used to have. Australia itself has been a dream come true for me, and just the mere decision to come here is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. However, there are certain things, places and activities that have made this experience even more wonderful, and now I want to share them with you. This is my ultimate Australia bucket list.
Diving at the Great Barrier Reef – check!
I did this last year in Cairns and it was my first time diving. Highly recommend!
Seeing Sydney Opera House – check!
It is beautiful in daylight but more stunning during the night.
Visiting Australian bush – check!
My ultimate Australian bush experience was doing my 3.5 months of farm work on a rural zucchini farm in Northern Queensland.
Drinking the best coffee in Melbourne – check!
Melbourne is definitely the coffee capital of Australia – maybe even of the whole world. Melburnians take their coffee really seriously, even to a point that making a perfect cup of coffee is considered to be some kind of an art form.
Doing a hot air balloon ride over Yarra Valley – not yet
There cannot be a better way to start your morning.
Visiting all the states and territories – not yet
Nearly there though! Only Western Australia left and next month I’m heading there!
Visiting the capital of Australia – check!
Unfortunately, it’s pretty boring.
Experiencing the hippie atmosphere of Byron Bay – check!
Seeing Uluru during sunset and sunrise – check!
I loved this so much that I’m doing it again next month!
Travelling East coast – check!
Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Noosa, Cairns, Mission Beach, Townsville, Harvey Bay…. Your Australian experience isn’t complete without a classic East Coast adventure.
Sleeping in a swag – check!
Under the stars in Yulara!
Seeing kangaroos and koalas in the wild – check!
Doing a tour around Tasmania – check!
In a relatively small land area you can see exceptional beauty.
Going on a wine tasting – check!
Done many times 😀
Experiencing The Great Ocean Road – check!
I’ve also done this four times already. If you ask me, this is the day trip to do if you’re in Melbourne or somewhere else in Victoria. If possible, combine with a trip to the Grampians.
Seeing Blue Mountains – check!
Seeing the Three Sisters rock formation was a dream come true.
Chilling on a boat in the Whitsundays – not yet
When I did East Coast last year, I didn’t have enough money to do this so I haven’t been able to tick this out yet.
Walking the Sydney Harbour Bridge – check
Going on a camel drive on Cable Beach – not yet
Maybe I’ll do this during my West Coast adventure in April.
Hiking to Cradle Mountain – check!
Hiking to Mt Kosciuszko – not yet
Mt Kosciuszko is the highest mountain in Australia.
Traveling with the Ghan train from Adelaide to Darwin – not yet
With ticket prices starting from almost 2000 dollars, this is still waiting for me becoming a millionaire (or at least not a poor backpacker).
What’s on your bucket list?
