Frantsila Kehäkukka – a hidden gem in Hämeenkyrö

Frantsila Kehäkukka

Looking for a different place to visit in Finland? Are you interested in nature, natural products and herbs? My sister gave me a tip to visit Frantsila Kehäkukka restaurant and café that is located in a small town of Hämeenkyrö, just 35 kilometres from Tampere. This stunningly beautiful place consists of an old school building dating back to 1875, now renovated in a rustic style and housing a cute cafe and a shop. I went there on my way from Tampere to Vaasa.

What is Frantsila?

Frantsila is a brand known for their herb farm (that has been in the same family for 300 years!) and high-quality natural beauty products and teas selling all over Finland and online. The company is a pioneer in organic herb farming in Finland, and they have been manufacturing natural health products since 1981. Frantsila Kehäkukka is a vegetarian restaurant and café open all year round and selling savoury and sweet pastries and lunch. The cafe sits on a beautiful river bank, surrounded by a small herb garden. The garden has plants during summer only of course. The actual large herb farm is located a couple of kilometres away.

Pappilanjoki-river offers beautiful views over summer houses and forests.

If herbs and stunning views are not enough to get you on the road, Frantsila’s lunch is truly worth a visit. Expect long queues on summer Sundays! The lunch is vegetarian –but this is a place where you can bring your carnivore grandfather and he won’t even notice that there isn’t any meat. Food is very home-cooked, tasty and filling, and you can help yourself with so many servings as you want! Dessert is included as well as coffee and tea. Don’t forget to try out their herb tea.

Not the prettiest picture but the food tasted better than my plate looked.

The café is also serving pies, pastries and cakes. Isak praised vegan blueberry pie (just 2.50 €). You can also find a small shop selling Frantsila produce and other local products, like chocolate from Ylöjärvi.

Visiting Frantsila Kehäkukka was my first stopover on my one-week holiday in Finland. I had never even heard of the place before but now I’m certain than this won’t be my last visit.
